Dreamer’s World April 30, 2018 – Never Lose Your Sense Of Wonder And Adventure

No matter what happens, I can always find inspiration by watching The Stooges as they go about their business each day. I envy them their ability to find something new and exciting every day. Being a cat must be hard work because they do get lots of rest, but when they are active, there is no stopping them from exploring and finding new things to occupy their interest. I think that they can teach us all a lesson about life.
We usually fall into a routine and then end up complaining about that routine until we finally force ourselves to change it. Perhaps we should start each day with a blank slate and explore the world around us as if we had never been here before. I think that would help our mental outlook and make us all happier.
The world around us is full of things to explore if we choose to see those things. It is a conscious effort, but it is worth it.

Dreamer’s World February 08, 2018 – Looking Forward To Some Time Off

After months and months of constant work, I am approaching a staycation that I desperately need. I have taken a day here and there for personal reasons over the last nine months, crammed with appointments and tasks that made them seem like just another day at work. I realized that I was exhausting myself over the xmas holiday period. I watched everyone else taking time off, and I knew that I needed some time for myself too.
There is one lesson I learned from my time in the Navy, and that is how to manipulate the system for maximum time off while burning the least amount of leave time. I decided to take the week of Presidents Day off. After checking the calendar, I knew that I would end up with nine days off while only being charged for four days of leave and I knew that this was the perfect time for me to get away from work. I haven’t made plans except for telling Hal that we are going to one of the local casinos on one of the days. Neither of us are real gamblers, but showing up with some extra cash and hitting the slots for the day isn’t going to bankrupt either of us. I predict that we will spend between $20-25 at the casino and will hopefully walk away with some extra winnings at the end.
The two closest casinos are the MGM at National Harbor, just south of DC in Maryland, and the Charles Town casino in West Virginia. I prefer to go to West Virginia because we have not traveled in that direction and it will be nice to go somewhere new. The weather may be a factor, but that is out of my control. Presidents Day is notorious around here for snowstorms after all.
I made the arrangements to take time off two weeks ago, and I have waited for it to arrive. I know that I only have to get through the rest of this week and then next week before I can let things go and relax with Hal and The Stooges. The timing is perfect for me to get away, and the next opportunity like this won’t happen until Memorial Day. There is no way that I could hold out that long. As staycation time gets closer, my anticipation grows each day.
Today will be another day with the work routine. I feel like I am just going through the motions on a treadmill, but that is nothing new. At least I can look forward to a visit with the acupuncturist after work today. I hope to end the evening with a good night of sleep.
Hal The Cat just broke up my morning routine. Since he was making all sorts of noise, I had to find a way to keep him quiet. I went to the kitchen for a drink and took a straw back and tossed it to Hal The Cat. The rest is history. Eventually, Hal The Cat tired himself out playing with the straw and decided to take a nap.

Dreamer’s World January 08, 2018 – Best Way To Spend A Cold And Icy Afternoon

Spartacus and Hal The Cat know how to deal with a day that has produced sleet and freezing rain. They are opposites in so many ways. Spartacus has been with us since he was a tiny kitten and has never known what it is like to be outside in the cold, while Hal The Cat was living on the streets for the first two years of his life until someone took him to the animal shelter where we found him.

As Thursday begins, I am hoping to get out of the apartment at some point today and enjoy another day of my vacation. It would have been nice to go into Old Town Alexandria today, but it will be far too hot for walking several miles. I will try to do that another day or perhaps on a weekend when the weather is nicer and more cooperative. Since Hal (person) isn’t working today, I hope that we will be out together to enjoy the day.
I don’t want to spend a lot of money today, but there are a few things that I need to get from the grocery store so I can cook some meals at home. Other than that, I might take Hal (person) to some places he wants to go. I do want to get a nice roast to cook in the crockpot, along with some green bell peppers, potatoes, and onions. Another possibility is picking up some chicken breasts so I can cook a few of them at a time here at home.
I am still extremely happy with Project Fi and the Nexus 5X. I read that the next generation of Project Fi phones will be out soon, but I have no plans to upgrade until after I complete my extrication from my current cell provider. That will happen before the end of this year, I am certain. After that, I know that there will probably be another round of Nexus phones in 2017, so I can afford to take my time and enjoy the savings that I will recoup.
One of the hardest decisions will be whether or not to just discard my old phone number and stick with the Google Voice number that I transferred to Project Fi. I think that it is time for a change, and only a handful of people will actually get the notification that my number has changed because I really don’t get many calls anyway. Again, this is something that I have time to prepare for without rushing into a decision.
Hal and I did get out today, but we didn’t make it to the grocery store after all. It was insanely hot here again today and we were exhausted by the time we got home. While we were out, I did pick up a new pillow to try out tonight because my old one is several years old, and I often find that I wake up and have been sweating into the pillow, so it is time to get a new pillow.
Since we got home, we have been waiting on a friend to call about possible plans to get together tomorrow. However since it is after 2100 and there has been now word from them , I believe this is a lost cause. I am not planning to hold tomorrow hostage at this point. If they call, that is great and we can see what might happen. If they don’t call, then there is no pressure on us to pursue the matter any further.
I took these photos with the Nexus 5X today. I am very happy with the phone and the camera. Hal The Cat doesn’t seem to mind posing.
