Kindness Journey – Day 162 – Scissors

I was thinking this morning as I sat in my bedroom, playing with Henry, about things that have no bearing on the world outside this house. I saw a pair of scissors on the desk and started thinking about how versatile and innocuous they are.

Scissors can be used to create or destroy. One can create beautiful things using scissors. Everything from paper items to cloth or fabric can be manipulated as we see fit using scissors. Cuts can be made that are great or small, delicate and articulate, or brand and defined. Our imagination is the limit to what we can create using scissors. We just have to free out minds to let the creativity flow.

On the other hand, scissors can be used to damage and destroy. If the blades are sharp enough, an item can be disfigured almost instantaneously. Scissors can also do harm to living creatures by using them as a weapon. While they might not be as sharp as knives, they are definitely able to inflict harm, and even death, if used improperly.

Scissors are a good analogy for so many things that can be either positive or negative, depending on who uses them. It is up to each of us to use them in a positive and constructive manner.
