When I woke up this morning I noticed Hal The Cat huddled on the rug. He was very lethargic and couldn’t hold his head up for more than a few seconds. I notified Hal (person) and we spent the next few hours trying to coax Hal The Cat to eat something, but it was useless.
Jax and Willow, our other 2 cats, gathered with us on my bed as we tried to comfort Hal The Cat as he started his journey. By 1100 this morning, we admitted that there was nothing more we could do. We called the veterinary hospital and took him in for the last time.
Hal The Cat was so weak and helpless, he only spoke once, a loud call as if he saw something that we couldn’t. Thankfully, it was over quickly. The vet did a great job easing his passage.
I’m still numb. At least I no longer have to differentiate between Hal (person) and Hal The Cat. Time will ease the pain. It always does. Hal The Cat is better off and ni longer suffering. For that, both Hal (person) and I are grateful.
