As the coronavirus swept through the tiny west Texas town of Iraan, the schools were the first to shut down. The sheer number of cases and people in quarantine then essentially closed the entire city.

First thing Monday morning, and I’m at the eye doctor waiting for Hal. I drive him because he’s not able to anymore due to his poor vision. I don’t mind one bit, because you are supposed to take care of the person you love.
I did start to think about other aspects of my life, and I realize that I’ve wanted too much time on people who I don’t love. The coworkers who have abandoned me since I went on disability are a prime example. I send texts to them every few days with updates on my condition and recovery, to no avail.
I also have spent too much time on other people who show no interest in staying connected. Everyone has their own lives to lead, and so do I. It’s time for me to put myself first, along with Hal, of course.
