Blood Glucose Roller Coaster

I had a tough time sleeping last night. My blood glucose levels fell drastically, and I  woke up sweating and disoriented. Almost immediately, I measured my blood oxygen level, and it was fine. Then I measured my blood glucose, and the meter just said “LO,” and I knew I was in trouble.

The remedy I always keep handy for an emergency like this is glucose tablets. I started taking and chewing those, and eventually, the blood glucose levels returned to normal.

I managed to stay calm during this episode, but it wasn’t easy. The urge to panic was real. I was scared, but I didn’t want to wake Hal since he couldn’t have done anything other than to offer moral support.

Riding the roller coaster of feelings and staying calm showed me that I could overcome a level of adversity that I might not have been able to in the past. I would rather not have to deal with another health issue right now, but if I have to, I know I can.
