Every year on this date, I think of Mom. If she were still alive, she would be 93 years old today. She passed away in 2001 just before her birthday, and since my Dad had died years before that, she was the last parent I lost.
Both of my parents were older than average when I was born, so it isn’t surprising that I have lost both of them. I always tell people around my age that if their parents are still alive that they should stay in touch with them and spend time with them whenever they can.
Dad gave me strength, while Mom gave me patience. Both of them taught me self-confidence and self-reliance. They taught me to never look down on another person, but to help them whenever I could, because you never know when that person might be the one to assist you in the future.
They taught me to value my friends and never to let them down. I learned that I am valuable and unique and that the only limits that can hold me back are the ones I impose upon myself.
Mom has been gone for 18 years now, but it is a testament to her that I still remember her without fail on her birthday.
