Dreamer’s World January 24, 2019 – The First Step

The first step is always the hardest. To make a decision and then carry through with it is one of the most challenging things we can do. The temptation to do nothing and leave things are they are is overwhelming at times. We make decisions and then let them fall away with no action taken, only to feel regret later. We rationalize inaction by saying that we need more time to plan things out when in reality there is no complete plan for life or the decisions we make.

The fear of the first step is intense. Have we forgotten something vital? Do we want to go through with this? Are we prepared for failure? Are we prepared for success? None of these questions are easy to answer, and they cause us to hesitate.

We have comfort in our lives, sometimes not the traditional type. When things are wrong and have been for a long time, that generates a level of satisfaction with our situation. The desire to change is present, but the fear of making things worse often prevents us from making a necessary change. We are taught to be creatures of habit, to not rock the boat, and to endure and hope that things get better.

The first step is waiting for us. Dare we take it?
